At about 930am we crossed the German border. This sign is the only way we knew we had changed countries. Unfortunately, due to the formation of the European Union in 1993, you no longer have to stop at border control when traveling throughout Europe. The tour director said this is a wonderful thing, as it could take an hour per bus to be processed, so if we got stuck behind other busses, our whole day could be gone. I said it was unfortunate we didn't have to stop because I was looking forward to lots of stamps in my passport. But I am glad to not have sat at the border for hours.
