We stopped at a rest area just inside the German Border. Again, there is a turnstile into which you need to deposit some coins. Here it was 70 cents Euro. The benefit of the rest areas are that after you put your money in, it spits out this ticket. It is good for 50 cents Euro off any purchase of food, drink, or other items in the store. So if you are planning to eat or drink anyway, it only costs 20 cents Euro to use the WC, as they call it.
One nice feature for my germophobe friends is what happens when you flush the toilet. A little arm comes out of the tank area and rests on the seat, much like a record player. Then, the seat rotates as a cleaning solution is released onto it. By the time it does a full rotation, the seat is dry. If you are concerned about its cleanliness before you use it, there is a sensor you can wave your hand over and it will do this process. The flusher is also a sensor you wave your hand over.
