Stonehenge!

When I heard we were going to England, the one thing I really wanted to do, other than see the queen with my own two eyes, was go to Stonehenge.  Nana Burr had been there and said it was nothing much to see, just a pile of rocks.  But I wanted to see it for myself.  I had read much about it and seen many the documentary about the thoughts behind how and why it was formed.

The day had finally come. The hour was at hand. My eyes would see Stonehenge... and it's a pile of rocks! I was suprised at how small it was.  The documentaries make it look massive.   A sight to behold. While it would have been very difficult for an ancient people to build, without the use of modern trucks and cranes, it just was not as impressive of size as I had thought it would be.  The second picture almost puts it into perspective.

I am reminded of when Doug and I were in New Mexico when we were first married. We were house hunting and he was interviewing for a job. The people at the possible new employer told us the Rio Grande river was nearby and we should definately not miss it.  We set out on an adventure to see the river that has the name "the great river."  What we found was a stream any toddler could easily jump over.

Sometimes its best to leave things as you think they are in your mind, rather than search them out and see they are not really what they seem to be.  Stonehenge was like that.  But I am still glad I went.  I can always say "I have been to Stonehenge!"
